I pulled out our dusty pieces of luggage from the attic today. I think I’ve been in denial. Yep – the luggage bears witness that we are actually going somewhere.
Chuckling to myself, I uncovered a black, square, flat, soft sided piece that will carry…hmm…not sure. Don’t know if it will be dependable. Forgot we had this one. What else do we have?
Goes to show how much we actually travel.
Finding an adequate, but nice-sized bag on wheels decides this will probably suit us better than the old-fashioned one…roomy enough for our winter stuff. These are perfect soft-sided pieces – they expand nicely. Searching further, in another attic, my son found an even better sized bag – I think these will do nicely.
Costco duffle bags are advertised to fit in the upper compartments – we buy two. They’ll fit if we don’t pack anything in the outside pockets…maybe. But, these will definitely come in handy for our immediate needs on short trips.
Oh yes, the backpacks. These will most likely carry our PCs and other personal essentials for our long flight.
Seems like a lot of bags.
I’m thinking we will be packing and re-packing in order to minimize.
Meanwhile – it looks like arriving at our destination in this fall season will be much like home. I’m feeling very glad about that. This means we can pretty much pack for fall to cold winter. Should we visit Thailand, I’m told it’s the rainy season, so research is still out for that adventure.
We plan to take small gifts for our new friends and hosts. We thought Oregon teas, post cards, and other mementos from our home to theirs would be nice. I’m taking magazines that reflect our city and state to share. On a personal level, I’m packing yarn for more crocheting (my new crafty treat I’m enjoying since becoming a Gramma!)
Do we take books? How many pairs of shoes? Suits and dresses won’t be needed so much, but layers, layers, layers are suggested. Again, I’m sensing this is much like home.
When winter comes it’s much colder than here. Thermal under clothing is suggested. In fact, we’re told, the Chinese will most likely ask us what we’re wearing underneath! Curious!
Guess I just need to start throwing things in the bag…..we’ve got 18 days to figure it out.
